How import duty is calculated in Bangladesh

  1. CIF value = invoice (FOB) value + freight + insurance. If insurance isn't declared, customs adds 1% of FOB.
  2. Convert to taka at the customs exchange rate on the date the bill of entry is submitted (published by Bangladesh Bank / NBR, close to the market selling rate).
  3. Assessable value (AV) = CIF in taka + 1% landing charge.
  4. CD, RD and AIT are charged on AV.
  5. SD is charged on AV + CD + RD.
  6. VAT and AT are charged on AV + CD + RD + SD.

Adding these up as a percentage of AV gives the TTI (total tax incidence) shown in the tariff. This calculator uses the same order, and its results match the TTI published by NBR for every percentage-rated HS code.
